(b Kirvu, Feb 4, 1934). Finnish composer and organist. He studied the organ with Enzio Forsblom and composition with Aarre Merikanto and Joonas Kokkonen at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki (1954–60), and then with Gottfried Michael Koenig and Bernd Alois Zimmermann at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik, Cologne. In 1963 he attended Stockhausen’s new music courses in Cologne.
